Description

The listing, 10 seeds - Organically Grown Heirloom Rio Grande Tomatoes has ended.

You are bidding on 10 seeds of my Organically Grown Heirloom Rio Grande Tomatoes.

**I grow and harvest all of my own seeds***

One of my favorite Tomatoes, the Rio Grande is a full flavored tomato great cut up in salads or used in sauces. The tomatoes form in clusters and seem to do well in weather extremes, both hot and cold. These are a good disease resistance variety an do well both in the ground or in containers on deck or patio garden.
It is a determinate plant and can be grown in supported by a cage, allowed to sprawl, or trellised. Mid-early paste-type tomato.
Its scientific name is Solanum lycopersicum 'Rio grande'. 'Rio grande' is considered a heirloom cultivar. As I state above this is a great paste/sauce tomato, this one has natural VFF resistance. Earlier and more productive than the standard Roma tomato, it is plum shaped, red, regular leafed plant.
Rio Grande grows as an Annual and is a Fruit. Being an Annual, it tends to grow best over the course of a single year. Rio Grande is known for growing to a height of approximately 3 to 4 feet.
Mexico is believed to be where the Rio Grande originates from.
Typically, Rio Grande Tomatoes are normally fairly low maintenance and can thus be quite easy to grow - only a basic level of care is required throughout the year to ensure it thrives. Being aware of the basic growing conditions this plant likes (soil, sun and water) will result in a strong and vibrant plant.

Seeds will ship via USPS usually within 24 hours of the end of the auction and my receipt of your Listia approved address.

Nice posting! You provide quiet a bit of information!!!!!!!! I see you are in TX as well, so I am guessing that this tomato is well suited (unlike beefsteaks) for the hot and humid weather we see here in N. Central TX.

Hi, thanks. The Rio Grande is one of my most productive tomato varieties year in and year out. It does very well in our Austin area, and it is a good hot set tomato so it keeps giving when others stop producing in the heat.
