Description

The listing, 1958 Wheatback Penny has ended.

I used this penny to compare the size of the diamonds in another auction, and per request, I am listing it.
This is a 1958 Wheatback penny, and the mint was Denver 1958-D.
It has a good patina, and looks pretty good.

Free shipping to Canada as usual, by USPS First Class. I ship on Wednesdays usually, but I'll just throw this in an envelope and stamp it within 1 business day.

Wheat-back Lincoln cents were made between 1909 and 1958. They depict Abraham Lincoln on the front. The reverse design has Ears of wheat on each side, hence the nickname “wheatties”. Unlike today’s cent, which is copper plated zinc, old wheat pennies were made of almost solid copper (95% copper and 5% tin/zinc). In 1958 the US government mint was authorized to stop making the Wheat ears cents. In 1959 they changed the reverse design of the Lincoln penny to a Lincoln Memorial design.

Interesting penny facts

*First year of the wheat ear Lincoln cent was 1909
*The Lincoln penny replaced the US Indian Head cent coin design which ended in the middle of 1909.
*The reverse of the Lincoln cent was redesigned for 2009, to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Lincoln cent and the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln! Four new designs were minted for this special occasion. Read about the 100th anniversary 2009 Lincoln pennies.
*The 1909 Lincoln cent was originally intended to be a commemorative (one year issue) coin to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Abe Lincoln’s birth. Because it was so well received, the government decided to continue with the Lincoln cent design.
*The front (obverse) of the Lincoln cent is the longest running design of any size coin currently being minted.
*A wheat penny is really not a penny. The term "penny" is used by Great Britain to identify their small British copper coin. The US government has never called the 1 cent coin a penny. The coin's official name is "cent".
*Weight of each coin is 3.11 grams
*Diameter of the cent is 19mm.
*The wheat penny is not really a “penny”. The term penny comes from England’s coins. Here in the United States the government and the US mint call one cent coins “cents”.
*The Lincoln Wheat cent was the first US 1 cent coin to have the Motto “In God We Trust” on it.
*Designed by Victor D Brenner
*Examine your cents closely and you may see that the designer’s initials V.D.B (for Victor D. Brenner) appear on the very bottom of the shoulder of Lincoln’s portrait. You will find it one wheat cents from 1918 to 1958.
*A “D” below the date means the coin was minted at the Denver United States government mint. “S” means it was minted at the San Francisco mint. No letter below the date means it was minted at the Philadelphia US mint.
*The Memorial back cent replaced the Wheat penny in 1959. The memorial backed cent celebrates it’s 50th anniversary in 2009.

This is an old cent. Along the top front, it reads IN GOD WE TRUST.
Of course, that was before it was illegal to be Christian, or frowned upon to mention the name of God in what was once a country based on freedom of speech. Now, only our enemies have that freedom. What a sad state has come from this present nation.

I'm not good when talking about death, but I salute your child, and produce as much gratitude as is possible in writing. I wish I could say it gets easier, but you and I both know that's not true. All I can do is pray for each and every man, woman, and child sacrificing their lives for ours.
