Not trying to be rude at all, but I looked up the soldering iron and it says that there is an LED light on the front that will come on when it turns on. So if you happen to come across a few batteries (maybe you can find some in random things around your place, like remotes or something?) you can test it without needing the soldering wire--just see if the light comes on. It also said in the video that when the 2 tips on the iron make contact with whatever is being soldered correctly, a red light will come on to let you know--so you could touch the tip against a piece of copper or something if you have something like that lying around and see if that light comes on too. If you test it and it works I will GIN. Here is the video I found that shows how to use/test the iron (not affiliated with it in anyway, just found it helpful): Thanks! =) Have a good day!
