The listing, Vintage Embossed Lion Leather Bound Book Cover has ended.

Vintage leather bound book cover with embossed lion and designs. Measures 9.5 x 7.

This came out of an estate sale. I have no knowledge of age or make but I believe it is Italian made. All I know is that the house it came out of was one of an elderly woman. There was some papers and recipes stored in it...in Italian! The cover I would say in my opinion is in great shape in spite of some kind of stains on the inside flap and initials stamped on the front cover. Everything seems to be intact. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will gladly answer the best to my ability.

I can include it if you want. It's like 2 booklets with recipes in them. Even though I'm Italian, I don't understand it lol...so its useless to me. But the dishes look yummy!! =)

This is the Italian naval emblem..The coat of arms was changed in 1947. This particular one is to signify venice. There were 4 cities of Italy that did not have independence from Nazi Germany and the coat of arms change marked that. Venice symbol is the lion in front of the shield holding a bible open instead of a sword. I think this family was from venice and came to America during that time. This seems to me to be a bible cover handmade possibly from around world war 1 and never used. It's neat how the item tells a story itself. All the rest of Italy was independent back in the 1800's so this was a big deal saying Thank God we are free.

Beautiful piece of work! I would fan you but I am at my limit right now. I need to go thru my 1000 fanned ppl and weed out ppl that are not active anymore. I dislike having to do that but it needs done. I did it a few months ago and found ppl that hadn't checked in since 2010! That's a lion rampant in the shield...a royal coat of arms...I know Scotland used it....maybe it's Scottish? It's really a cool piece

You could be right! I only mentioned Italian because 1. the woman who had this had all papers/recipes in it and it was all in Italian....not to mention tons of books in Italian too. and 2, they have something similar to this on eBay and they say its Italian. I could be wrong tho, and its all just a guess. But thank you for commenting :)
