FREE: sphere spring globe - unidentified object

Well, I don't really know what this is but it caught my interest when I found it. It's a piece of metal wire in the form of a globe or ball. You can compress it and it pops back up like a spring. Not sure that it has a function, definitely looks intriguing and decorative. Something for creative minds to use in a crafts or art project. Or just hang it on a ribbon or chain. It does show some surface wear if you look closely. Maybe some metal cleaner can take that out. It fits in the palm of a hand, I would say approx. a couple of inches in diameter. Don't know what metal it is made of.
