This is a mourning cameo.
The setting is a high mount and does have significant plating loss.
I have shown as many angles as I possibly can.
You can probably dip it and re-plate it but I think "as-is" is part of it's charm and character and history.
The black cameo is raised pretty high from the base and nicely detailed.
It is old plastic or possibly celluloid?
The brooch has intricate details around the sides.
If you want a PERFECT brooch,then this is not the one for you as it does have significant loss.
Also,there is slight movement of the cameo inside the setting.
I did not try to tighten it but it is thin enough around that you probably carefully can do it. It is in tight and won;t fall out,just noting all the flaws for you.
It is really pretty and once one,because of the different levels of the brooch,you cannot really see the plating loss when you look directly at it.
It measures about 1 7/8" x 1 1/2" x 1/2"
