Everyone who asked: This lens will work with any Nikon SLR or DSLR. However, if you own a camera without the AF motor in the body (like the D5100) then it won't autofocus for you, but should attach to the body. If you have a camera with the motor in the body, then it should AF. Hope this helps.

my research shows that it would need an AI Conversions kit approx $25 and would not meter on most DSLR Bodies with the exception of D1/D2/D200.

It should fit the D5100, but it won't autofocus. You will have to manual focus. Hope this helps!

this is a manual lens and also is used on older model don't use on D 70 or you will break mirror.

I don't have enough credits but I thought I'd mention in case anyone else is reading comments for info that I was going to get this for my Canon T3i. Canon cameras don't have a AF motor in the body but this would still fit and be a manual focus lens. Still very cool and worth it! Nikkor lenses are nice :)
