The listing, RARE Antique Billiken God Of Good Luck Figure has ended.
This auction is for a small antique Billiken pocket piece. The origin and story of Billiken are very strange. In 1908, a Missouri teacher had an unusual dream, where this mysterious figure appeared to her. After waking, she became obsessed with the mysterious figure, whom she named Billiken, and even patented his image and began producing figures of him. In just a short time, Billiken became widely known as the God of Good Fortune, or "Things as they ought to be". Billiken became a huge fad between 1910-1920 and (I'm not sure why) the Eskimos began carving Billikens out of bone, ivory, and antlers and selling them to tourists. This Billiken is one of those, probably carved from antler. It has a nice yellowish color from age and dates to 1910-1920. He measures about 1.35" tall and is in good condition. This piece was made to carry in your pocket for good luck all day long. This Billiken has always been lucky for me, perhaps he will bring you good luck too!
