Description
The listing, US gold coin 1872 California fractional 1/2 has ended.
Heres some history. During the gold rush of the 1800's mining camps began minting their own gold coinnage to pay the workers and buy supplies. These gold coins were ok by the us mint for use in california only. They were called "fractional gold" because each coin was worth a fraction of 1 dollar. Some coins were marked 1/2 ( as in fifty-cents) some 1/4 (as in .25) etc. you are bidding on a 1872 1/2 fractional GOLD coin from california!! this item was purchased along with another in a larger group a few years back. It appears to be authentic and in gem uncirculated condition! this one looks too good to be true but I was assued that it's authentic! shipping is FREE!
To be honest I have no idea...have you seen th $5 eagles? Its smaller than that. Its smaller than a dime. Not sure ill try to measure if I can find a ruler
Another user has claimed this might be a copy. Please do some research as I don't know. I was told by a reputable dealer it was authentic. Please check , bid, and decide for yourself.
I was told by the coin dealer I got it from it was authentic. But Another listia user did some research and believes the 1872 may be a fake. I personaly dont know. I believe the 1853 is real. As I have looked that up on the internet and it looks good
