I don't doubt that they are easy to make for people who can actually crochet. Someone gave me some yarn and instructions to make an amigurumi wolf about a year ago, because I love amigurumi, but I couldn't even manage to start a simple chain stitch. I don't know if it was the bad method of the person trying to teach me, or just my general awkwardness, but I was lost.

yeah, reading some patterns is totally like looking at another language. i had a roommate that taught me in college about 11 years ago. i've just been learning from online and stuff ever since.
