The listing, WWII Denmark Stamps Honoring King Christian X has ended.
King Christian X of Denmark refused to leave his country when it was invaded by the Germans in WWII. The popular king was an inspiration and hero to the Danes. When the Germans ordered all Jews in Denmark to wear the yellow Star of David patch, the King went riding the next day wearing one. Thousands of non Jews in Denmark did the same. Meantime, Danish patriots slipped thosands of Jews out of the country to neutral Sweden and when war was over, they came back to see their homes and yards maintained for them.
As the war was nearing an end, a Danish bookstore put English-Danish dictionaries in the window with sign "Learn English before our English friends come" The Germans demanded he replace them with German-Danish dictionaries. He did and added sign "Learn German before our German friends leave."
