Description
The listing, Vintage Cornicello- Italian Good Luck Amulet/Green Chili Pepper Pendant Necklace has ended.
This pendant reminds me of a green chili pepper. Some of you might see it as that of a bull horn. The green stone appears to be jade. I'm not sure though. It has dark specks inside. Pendant is 2 inches long on a 1/20 14KGF chain. Gold on chain appears to be all worn down.
This is called Cornicello- an Italian amulet of good luck protecting the wearer from the evil-eye curse. A twisted horn-shaped charm that resembled the twisted horn of an African eland, but over the years have become stylized and less horn-like. They are mainly found in Italy and in America among descendents of Italian immigrants. "According to some Calabrese traditions, the horn was once modeled after a chili pepper, due to its abundance in the region."
