Description

The listing, Vintage Appillatian Folk Lore Pottery Pig has ended.

Hi everyone, I don't know a lot about this adorable Pig jug
other than My grandparents traveled in there later years
together and mostly on the east side of the country. On
there frequent trips to Florida they often stopped at Antique stores or roadside "Junk shops". My grandparents loved the mountain routes especially. They came back from one such trip with this pig jug of pottery clay and a cork in its mouth. It is signed on the bottom
but I can't make it out, so I don't know who or what to research. My grandparents always regarded this as it
was something special and kept it in a safe place to
display. It measures 4 inches tall and 4 1/2 long .
It is the cutest thing. I have heard of stories from the appellation mountain people who were into the Moon
shine of the prohibition era. As it was illegal to drink some would try to disguise there alcoholism with small
homemade pottery animal jugs. I think that is what this is.
But I am no at all sure without more research. But I personally have in the antique business heard of such as this.............. thanks for stopping bye.

If you remove the cork, will a quarter fit into the opening? If so, it is probably a "Corky Pig" Piggy Bank.

No quarter, its more like a nickel....anyway I've seen those and they are usually ceramic made. This is pottery and very folksy looky.
