Description

The listing, Love-Lies-Bleeding seeds (8+) Amaranthus caudatus from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello has ended.

When Jefferson noted "Amaranths" on an undated manuscript of garden flowers, he was probably referring to the Love Lies Bleeding, a curious summer annual cultivated by the earliest American flower gardeners. Its common name suggests the unusual, cascading red flowers that droop to the ground during the summer.

Growth Type: Annual
Color(s): Reds
Hardiness Zones: 1 - 10
Location at Monticello: West Lawn
Planting Conditions: Full Sun and Partial Shade

You will receive 8+ seeds. I always include a few extra seeds (hence the "+"). I also include an informational insert about the plant when you win seeds.

I only ship to verified addresses received thru the auction link. DO NOT EMAIL your address. If you have problems go to http://www.listia.com/support for help. Any ended auction without a verified address after 7 days will be relisted and the credits forfeited.

can I deal with you before this ends?? I have been looking for seeds of this in all the stores, but I guess it isn't one of the most popular. I had these planted all over the Ponderosa restaurant in Lima Ohio, and it went out of business soon after I left that place, and I never made it back to get seeds. I will bid...but...I DONT WANT TO LOSE.

These are native to Africa, India and Peru and like moist, average, well-drained soils. They are best in full sun for flowering but in some hot summer climates, appreciate some afternoon shade. These are annuals so they do not come back year after year, but they self-sow their own seeds so you should end up with more the next year. Or, of course, you can collect the seeds to plant next spring. They should grow fine in Louisiana.
