JAPANESE MAPLE
GIN = 25 SEEDS!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
Considered an investment, the Japanese Maple is one of the most sought after (and expensive) of the Maple species. Prized for its petite size, manipulable body and year long showing of ever changing colors, this species is perfect for your BONSAI or ORNAMENTAL TREE COLLECTION.
Acer Palmatum is noted for its production of many interesting trunks, which when grown as a BONSAI give the appearance of a magical mini-forest. The light brown trunk, branches and glossy green leaves all have tendency to cascade towards the shade. Though the Japanese Maple puts on a show every day of the year...fall, is when this star of the garden truly shines! Get comfy and watch daily as the foliage changes its hues from yellow, orange, bronze, purple and finally a vibrant red!
Seeds are extremely Fresh, Healthy and Ready for EASY Germination!
TYPE: Evergreen
ZONES: 5-8
SUN: FULL. Add Part Shade if you want it to naturally cascade to one side.
STANDARD TREE HEIGHT: 15-20'
SOIL: MUST be well-draining. Slightly acidic loamy soil with sand and medium compost. When established, this maple will tolerate dryer conditions but never wet feet from poor drainage. Wet roots and/or moist bark (from mulching to close to the trunk) will attract all kinds of trouble from pest to fungus...so this one rule is very important to remember when planting. (suggest a combination of pebbles and sand at the base of roots for continuous drainage.
GERMINATION: Break off wings. Soak seed in HOT water (small glass jars with lids works perfect) for 24 hours. Drain. Add lightly moistened seed starter, peat or sand in a zip lock baggy. Now let's add a natural fungicide with a dash if 'cinnamon' and shake the bag. Add seeds and shake again. Place closed bag (do not squeeze out the air) in lettuce compartment of your fridge until seeds germinate.
