I bought my plant from The Growers Exchange. Realizing that with shipping expenses and the cost of the plant that I could only get one plant. So I decided to get some seeds. They only need to be sprinkled on top of the soil (they need light to sprout) or grow them in a sunny window on top of a wet paper towel in a zip lock bag. These are pod fresh from my plant.

Salvia sclarea (Clary Sage)

A valued medicinal, culinary and ornamental herb, Clary Sage makes a great companion to any garden.

Derived from the Ancient Roman word "claurus" meaning "clear", Clary Sage seeds were once used to remove harmful irritants from eyes by boiling them to create an eyewash. Due to its antispasmodic, antidepressant and estrogen enhancing properties it was also recommended in tea form to women suffering from menstrual and menopausal problems. Today Clary Sage is generally used to aid digestion and bloating.

Because Clary Sage can enhance drunkenness and create a more profound narcotic effect, it was once used to replace hops in beer to increase its potency.

The leaves of the Clary Sage can be used in salads, while the tops are used in soups, jellies and omelets to lend a sweet fragrant flavor.

Bloom: Pink, late Spring through early Summer

Uses: Clary Sage can be used in teas to calm anxiety, muscle cramps and depression. The leaves and flowers also make a great compliment to salads. Also used as a fixative in potpourris.

Tips: Although classified as a biennial, Clary Sage often lives longer than two years.
