Is your son just into coins or does he like stamps or banknotes?

Dawson is like his mom... he collects LOTS!!! Coins is his own idea, but I've given him my collection of stamps that I started when I was his age! His has a few banknotes, but he was kind of turned off of collect them cuz when the Canadian Roadshow came to our town a little while ago, they literally turned their noses up at them... & he has an old Canadian $20 from 1968, not too old to us, but him it's ancient! ;)
Hopefully, he doesn't continue to pick up my "bad habits" of collecting... although he is collecting Pokemon cards to compete with my sports cards collections!!! lol

lol, you know I had 15 folders of duplicate banknotes/all that made it into those folders were nice high grade or rare notes. I took them to a show for an appraisal and the man said oh banknotes are worthless. I would estimate for insurance purposes about 500.00, then he says I will buy them all for 550.00. I laughed and said not on your life. One of these I can sell and get 550.00 I still have that. I did sell one that was in UNC. for just under 400.00, I have seen banknotes out preform coins many times over. I like them both so it doesn't bother me. BUT ALWAYS know when someone tells you something like that, they are trying to scam you.

For sure! I'm kind of surprise that my son has such a good head on his shoulders... I think I would get gotten rid of whatever was deemed worthless!!! lol But Dawson came out of that show & turned to me & said "Mom, that guy was an idoit, he shouldn't be working there cuz he doesn't know what he's talking about!"... Little does he know, eh?! ;)

lol, that is a smart kid! You keep taking him to those places, and one of these days people will not try to take him, because he is so young. If I could suggest, buying him publications that relate to coins or banknotes. They will surely tickle him and make him an even wiser collector. One of the best tools for any collector is the handbooks of the hobby so to speak. You learn a lot. Most importantly keep indulging his excitement in the hobby!!! This hobby is literally a hobby of assets, they will always hold value and can be a great learning experience. I can not tell you how many times I have played along with Jeopardy and swept categories just because of the things I learned from my two main hobbies of coins and banknotes! This is a hobby that has been going on for years and years before I was even born and it is still as strong as ever. If he is as sharp as you say which I think he is, you will not be disappointed with your choice to aid him in his collecting. I haven't been to Canada in a very long time, don't know if they have live auctions of estates but you should check into it and keep your eye peeled for coins as they do show up and often are not listed in the advertisement, that is one good place to get a bunch of coins for wholesale. Sometimes you have to fight for them and I have not always won at an auction. But when I do, I am very pleased!!~ I am rambling lol....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! :)

OMG, I LOVE estate auctions, but I have been able to go to many in the last few years cuz I know work nights...thus I sleep when the auctions are on, major drag!!! Someday I will re-join the excitement of estate auctions... someday!!! :)
I'll keep my eyes open for different publishings some, but for now, we'll just have fun... at 8 reading isn't a strong suit!!! ;)

lol, yes that is true. At 8, I think are just learning. In a few years he will be a pro....Yes work does have a habit of getting in the way of fun lol. I haven't been to but a handful this year which is way down from last year this time. I have been battling the rain with planting this year and I refuse to let it win lol. I got half way through a field sunday when monsoon like rain came through and put a real damper on the other half. Pulling mud is not to fun and def. not a good way to plant. Yesterday and today it has been almost 100 degrees and we still have mud. Guess what, more rain in the forecast in the next few hours with severe potential. So I have lots to do sometime this week lol. For now I will just play with my baby chicks and kits. Of course that gets old too. Got a whole line of fence to redo before I can let the calves out in that lot....Weather just is not cooperating. I have to say around here or have someone around to be sure to help with this bad sow and her delivery. LAST TIME FOR HER. She is off to the market lol. She lays on at least half of her litter and they don't make it. I thought it was because of her age and inexperience but now lean towards the fact that she is a psycho lol.
