Zanzibar - 10 cents - Victory Collection - 1946. Postmask reads: Victory Issue 8th June 1946
Sultan Chlifa bin Harub Al-Said, and he spported abolitionism. (In Western European and America, abolitionism was a historical movement to end the African and Indian slave trade and set slaves free.)
On June 8th, 1946, a quite extraordinary stamp collection was issued. Even now, almost 50 years on, the full story remains a mystery to all but a few.
Just after the celebrations of VE Day, postal authorities announced their intention to issue a magnificent philatelic celebration of allied Victory. ( Allied victory in Europe, Victory in Europe Day)
Historically, this collection is unique. Under the cloak of the British Empire, more than forty countries are represented. And just one factor that makes these stamps all the more collectible is that many of the issuing nations have since taken the road to independence.
