Description

The listing, Winner gets 10 HORROR DVDs! FREE Shipping! Ghostbusters! Elm Street 3! More! has ended.

Hopefully, we'll get more people this time to say a while and chat, and possibly VOTE!

So I have 20 horror DVDs. I'm going to put up 2 at a time and everyone will vote on which ones will be selected for the 10 that gets shipped out!

I need a minimum of 7 votes to have a DVD selected.

This will be a 21 day auction.

Let's all have fun and talk about films (or other things).

I can always change this around to where it's not just horror films. I'll take direction from the input of the visitors! If you fan me, I will fan back.

The higher the bids go, I will start adding extras.

GIN is set to 100,000. If someone does that, I will have some neat extras to throw in!

So...to start off let's have the first 2 DVDs:

DVD Bracket #1:
Zombieland VS. Ghostbusters
Winner: Ghostbusters

Bracket #2
A Nightmare on Elm street 3: Dream Warriors VS Bride of Chucky
Winner: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Bracket #3
The Last Exorcism VS The Exorcist III

Cool auction, different approach. I am interested to see what horror movies you will be adding.

My vote for your first bracket is: Ghostbsuter's

I love Zombieland and Woody Harrelson is Awesome, however Ghostbuster's is a Classic. I know Bill Murray is in both, but again Ghostbuster's is a classic.....lol.

Who doesn't love Slymer ? I know I love that Green Gooey Guy.....lol.

I will be back to see the next bracket soon. Thanks for offering fanned and watching

Thanks! One of the big things I wanted to do was to have fun. I have nearly 200 DVDs that I'm going to be parting ways with and want to do most of them in a fun way. I'm trying to make sure each title has a connection to it's competitor.
Are there any types of horror film you like in particular? Maybe that'll be the next 2 up? :)

My Bracket 3 vote goes for........

The Last Exorcism

I honestly wasn't a fan of either of the movies in bracket 3, but The Last Exorcism was alright.

As for listing all your brackets at once.....I wouldn't do that. You are better off doing them as the votes go. I like it the way it is...Just my opinion. See you again later for the next bracket....lol

We are now 1 each for Last Exorcism / The Exorcist III.
5 more votes to go.

Don't worry - I have some really good "match ups" coming. I wanted to make sure I got some different subgenres represented.

House of 1000 Corpses. I will still vote on the last bracket but, the bid is getting to high for me to bid on. Will you have another horror auction like this or is the kids one next?

House of 1000 Corpses = 1
Children of the Corn = 0

I am looking at having a PG/PG-13 and under bracket (or a kids specific one). The more people participate, the better!

I am going with House of 1000 Corpses for my # 9 vote. I love Rob Zombie's twisted mind. His horror movies are AWESOME. They ran the children of the Corn into the ground with all the crappy sequel's. I can't stand Children of the Corn anymore.

Since the day is nearly over, if GIN is used, one of the things that will be given out is an Evil Dead lunch box. Not the NECA one, but the more rare Anchor Bay one.

My vote is for Freddy Dream Warrior 3......

Freddy Is AWESOME. I love Robert Englund.

Bride of Chucky was cool, but it wasn't as good as the first Chucky movies.

Exorcist 3, only for the part in the hospital where the music jumps right out at you for like 2 seconds. And Paul Naschy werewolf films. For the worst horror film, i,have it on VHS, I bought it new in 1988 when I was a kid, go to YouTube and watch Gore-met Zombie Chef from Hell. You won't forget it.ever.

I do have quite a few kids movies, but that will probably be another auction. Kids movies will generally be G or PG, I don't know if I even want PG-13 in the mix with kids (unless I do just family friendly auction).

Well I am partial to the classic Rated B Horror movies from 80's. I love the original Friday the 13th's, Nightmare on Elm St, Sleepaway camp, Night of the Demons, Dolls, Killer Klowns from Outerspace. You get the idea I am sure. That is just a few that I have a special place in my heart for.....lol

As you can see I am a HUGE horror movie fan. I love all things HORROR.

I am going for Shaun of the Dead, for my bracket 8 vote........

Shaun of the Dead is Hilarious, so stupid but so funny. Some cool death scenes. I was not a big fan of Land of the Dead. I thought John L. made it kinda cheesy. Plus zombies swimming and walking in water, and remembering things, that was annoying. Zombies are supposed to be mindless humans who only want brains....lol.

Lost boys all day and night! Scream may have been a classic for the 1990's kids, but for the 80's LB was right up there with Karate kid and the goonies!

I do like the first one and you are right they did talk, but I think it is John L in Land of the Dead that kills it for me. He just wasn't believable as a bad guy in that film. He didn't fit. The 60's Night of the Living Dead is a classic, and there is so many movies that followed suit, after that. I thought it was hysterical that Shaun of the Dead kind of made that approach but did it in a funny way. The Land of the Dead, just seemed so cheesy. I can't put all the blame on John. I think majority of that cast was weak. Maybe that is why I am not fond of it. Have a watched it a bunch of times. Of Course, but It just isn't one of my fav zombie flicks.

Land was a bit of a letdown for me as well, but it gets a little better with age. The main reason I pitted these two together was that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were in both. I got Romero does another Non zombie film. I really want to see another anthology film on the big screen... Like Creepshow.

Aug 14th, 2014 at 10:19:59 AM PDT by

There will probably be another horror one, action/adventure, scifi/fantasy, superhero, kid-friendly and catch-all. Catch-all may be one of those tiered auctions - people's choice, based on bids.

Heck yeah I am down for a Creepshow anthology film. That would be good. I love the Creepshow stories.

I know for a Romero film LOTD was a let down, I think that is another reason I was disappointed. There is a zombie film that I think is a Romero ( I am not sure though ) it takes place on this little island town. There are two father's that have held a grudge against each other forever and the one father has twin daughters......is any of this ringing a bell with anyone ?.....lol. I think it may be Survival of the Dead or something similar to that.
Aug 12th, 2014 at 10:45:59 AM PDT by
Original
Survival of the Dead is the correct name, it's a sort-of sequel to Diary of the Dead. I think Diary did better critically than Land, especially since he went back to his independent film making roots. After watching Survival, I wasn't happy with it - but it's something I think I need to revisit.
Aug 12th, 2014 at 10:52:36 AM PDT by
Original
I don't remember Survival of the Dead, I think I might have missed that one. I just rewatched a couple movies I hadn't seen in awhile one I liked a little less then I remembered(Event Horizon) and the other I enjoyed a lot more then I remembered(In the Mouth of Madness) sometimes it's just a matter of mood. I went and saw Alien Resurrection with a buddy we left the movie so ***** off we decided to watch another movie right after Starship Troopers which while not a great movie was a major improvement over a movie that was a total let down.
Aug 12th, 2014 at 7:52:41 PM PDT by
Original
I watched Event Horizon again (originally saw it in theaters) not too long ago (within the past year) and found I still really enjoyed it. Pretty much what I though Hellraiser in space should have been (not the theatrical cut of Bloodlines).

As for In the Mouth of Madness - pretty much one of my favorite "inspired by HP Lovecraft" movies. I have a huge soft spot for John Carpenter. I recently watched Starship Troopers as part of the Rifftrax lineup when it was in theaters last year. That was fun. No matter how I try to justify it - Alien Resurrection was...well, let's just say the talent used on the movie was completely wasted. Jeunet is a great director (City of Lost Children, Delicatessen) but arsty director doesn't exactly translate to scifi-horror blockbuster. Let's not forget Joss Whedon had his hand in it too...I just don't know how much of his original script made it in. It's one of the only ones I haven't watched on the huge Alien box set that came out on Blu-Ray a few years back.

I found Survival to be better than Diary but I think my dislike of the whole "found footage" thing could be to blame for that. A semi recent (2011 I think) zombie film that I thought was ok was "The Dead" about some dude stranded in the African Sahara with zombies.
Aug 12th, 2014 at 9:18:26 PM PDT by
Original
I've heard the Dead is a good film (along with it's sequel), but haven't seen it yet. Zombies are starting to wear out their welcome - at least for now. I'm sure there will something that will blow my mind - seems to happen once every 15-20 years or so (like most genres).
Aug 13th, 2014 at 5:16:41 AM PDT by
Original
Okay, I thought the was the name of it. Yeah I knew it was kinda a sequel to the Diary of the Dead. It starts with the military guys, from Diary of the Dead. I thought those Zombie flicks were okay. I feel they were a lot better then LOTD. I think those are Romero films.

I seen this movie the other day called Mimesis I think. It is about a group of people that scout a bunch of people from a Comic Con type of thing where you can see Sid Haig, in all his glory as a writer.....any who these unsuspecting horror fans are invited to a party. While at this party they are drugged, when they awake they are basically re acting the movie Night of the Living Dead ( The original ). It is a cool, movie. If you haven't seen it you have to check it out. It was def a different take on horror films and zombies. I enjoyed it.

As far as Zombie's wearing out their welcome. It is no different then all the hoopla with Vampires when the Twilight movies came out. People love to run things into the ground until they get bored with it, and then find something else to run into the ground. I am sure with a little time. The zombies popularity will die down and then we can get back to enjoying them for what they are. But, I understand and get what you are saying. It has become annoying.

I saw the poster for [rec] 4 a couple of days ago and I'm pretty excited about it. While not a zombie film - it's definitely about infection. The first 2 were a blast and while the 3rd wasn't quite as good, it was still a good time.

I'm really waiting for that one horror film that blows me away...at least for a while. The last one to do that was Kill List --- I think some of it had to do with the fact that I felt like it was a cousin to The Wicker Man.
Aug 13th, 2014 at 9:36:46 AM PDT by

Yeah the zombie genre goes up and down quite a bit...it was pretty big in the 70's and 80's then died for a few years before Resident Evil for the original playstation started getting the younger generation into it again. Now with Walking dead its popularity is so mainstream...really weird, it was always a fringe thing before, now you have regular non-horror fans who know all the zombie "rules" and such, just like vampires became so mainstream that everyone knows the cross, garlic, mirror trick, etc.

I still enjoyed Event Horizon but for awhile I watched it a lot, while I remembered being disappointed in In the mouth of madness. That's what I meant by mood. I wasn't in the mood for Event but was totally in the mood for In the mouth. Sometimes your expectations ruin a good movie. The new Thing was panned by everyone I new that loved the original(one of my favorite John Carpenters it's a close one between Prince of Darkness and The Thing) so my expectations were so low I ended up enjoying it.
