Sweetheart Cherry

This is the sweet cherry you have been asking for! A self fertile cherry tree, it needs no pollinators to bear a plentiful crop. The Sweetheart Cherry is a medium size ornamental tree that provides interest year round. In spring, beautiful fragrant white blossoms adorn the tree as the shiny green leaves emerge. In fall, the leaves turn to nice shades of orange and red.

Within a few years of planting, an abundant crop of cherries will start to form and grow. The Sweetheart Cherry tree produces ripe sweet cherries over a time span in summer, allowing you to extend your picking season rather than having a glut all at once. The cherries are large, bright red and firm even after you have picked them, and they resist cracking. Great for eating fresh as they are sweet and juicy and richer than most other sweet cherries!

A lot of food plants are now genetically modified, or infected by genetically modified (GM, or GMO) crops.I'm wondering whether you know if it is a GM crop, or if it's heirloom (seed producing seed after its own kind), or if it's hybrid (seed producing sterile offspring).

well this tree is home grown. i have 5 of them growing from seeds. i got the seeds from the tree growing in my yard. i hope this helps.

i don't know. the tree was here before i moved in. its about 20ft high. i hope this helps

Yes, it does.
I've done a bit of research.
It looks like this one is most likely non-GMO, as the "mature height" is listed at 20 feet, and it would take several years to mature to that point.
That long ago, the mega-corporations were focusing on more widely-marketable cash crops.

You pick the cherries. But you have to be careful because you could damage the buds for next season.

Are they cold hardy? I live in N.E. Arkansas. Would it survive if it were planted outside now it being this close to winter? Or should it be brought in the house this winter until spring?
