"Grade 3-4-- Bertram Potter, 11, lives in the Fear Factory, a wax museum, with his family and his grandfather's assistant, a "Transylvanian transplant." These two books detail different adventures primarily involving Bertram and his grandfather, Phineas. In Back to the Grave , Phineas conjures up the ghost of his grandfather, Pygmalion. Pygmalion's practical jokes against the mayor almost bring disaster to the museum until Bertram finds a way to send the ghost back "to the other side." In Fright Night, Bertram and his grandfather attempt to scare the class bully into submission. The loving relationship between grandfather and grandson is carried out in both books. All the characters are well drawn, with humorous touches throughout. The episodes that move the plots along are hilarious, if unbelievable. The lighthearted, easily read text is complemented by infrequent sparse charcoal drawings. Bound to be popular with children, these books are not great literature, but they are fun to read. --Molly Kinney, North Dade Regional Library, Miami, FL
