Meganhollywould: the small flat spot on your babys head is indeed from her laying down on her back too much. i know thats what the doctors tell us mommies to do for the safety of our little ones but laying on their back for too long or too often does cause that flat spot you described. I suggest letting your little one try out a few different positions or using a boppy pillow or one of those "C" shaped traveling neck pillows to lift your babys head off the mattress and give their neck and head some support.
