I never played this, I will be honest. My boyfriend who played, who is right behind me, says that it's not hard at all. He says that it's SUPER fun and they have a great tutorial that teaches you how to play. The reviews on amazon.com say about the same thing. So, census says: not hard to learn; you can play on easy mode, medium, and expert.

When you say gently played, are there visible scratches, scuffs or dings on the equipment or does it smell of cigarettes or anything like that?

Slight scratching around the edge of the game from putting it in and out of the 360, no way to avoid those. And it's not physically possible to play this game and smoke (if we did smoke), so no. Equipment is exactly like it is when it came out of the box, but has gathered some dust from not being played for a minute.

lol you know the smoking thing while playing makes a lot of sense but I meant more like do you smoke in the house that it'd be smokey but it's good that you don't smoke. I quit smoking a few years ago and now the smell on stuff just makes me sick so i had to ask.
