This is a Natural, not synthetic, OPAQUE, very inclusive Blue Sapphire.
It's been Faceted and is not cylindrical. It is disc shaped, as you would find inserted into a Vampyre Queens heart. It's sitting on a U.S. quarter and is about 4x the thickness of said quarter.

Ancient folklore suggests that the discus Sapphire is the source of the vampyre's immortality and super human strength, and by cutting the Sapphire from the heart of a vampyre and taking possession of it, a mere mortal could transverse the vampyre's power and unearthly beauty upon themselves.

After the Greek and Latin church divided, the blue Sapphire encrusted throughout the church had taken on a certain supernatural quality unexplainable by the residents of the town.
