Fish are okay. I bought some yarn once from a smoker. It was supposed to be stored away from any smoke, but it is still airing out months later...

I recommend Febreze...it removes the smell and doesn't effect the yarn dye (at least, not on commercially made yarns. I might not use it on hand dyed yarn).

Thanks. I'd have to actually buy some Febreze. When I reach the point where I'll be knitting with it I'll wash it with something and see if that helps.

This is a non-smoking, no pet home (well, okay, we've got a fish tank, but I don't think they will effect the yarn)! ;-)

Unfortunately, smokers don't realize just how bad and strong the smell is to nonsmokers and those of us who quit. The febreeze sounds like a good idea. I'll have to try that. I always wash any fabric that I am going to use before I use it. I don't crochet anymore due to arthritis, but I'm sure the smoke smell is just as bad in the yarn as it is in the fabric.
