will these colors work on a dark brown hair or red?

No, you would have to prelighten your hair to a light blonde to platinum white hair in order to get pastel colors of the color of your choosing. How ever if your hair is a light brown, you still can get vibrant color, just a tad darker. The darker your hair color the more hue of the color (unatural) your going to get, the lighter your hair the more vibrant bright pop of color (unatural) is going to show through. Black hair will get hues of the unnatural color of choosing. While lighter hair will get results that are on the pics above in example. Color cannot lift color, heads up if you are going to lighten it up. :) Hope this helped.
