Description

The listing, Marimo japanese moss ball kawaii has ended.

More Marimos here!! For those of you who know what they are I am giving away 2 baby marimo. For those of you that dont they are quite interesting and Im sure you will love them. These are 100% real marimo, I cleaned out my bigger marimo and rolled these babies.
A Marimo is a rare growth form of the species where algae grow into large green balls with a velvety appearance and are only found naturally in a few lakes in the northern hemisphere. Therefore they are not actually moss, they are unique form of algae.
They are known as japanese moss ball that grow about 5mm per year and can live up to 200 years!!
Marimo have been around since the 1920s and are a japanese national treasure. Japan holds festivals annualy for marimo and believe they give off good luck and are a symbol of everlasting love.
They are also compared to the earth in being green and round and their need to rotate to receive light on all sides; they also float sometimes depending on the water and light and roll around on the bottom floor!
In Japan at lake Akan a great effort is spent to conserve the lake balls. Marimo are only known to form in Japan, estonia, iceland and scottland.
They can grow rather large but very slowly, it is said that taking excellent care of your pet marimo will make all your wishes come true!
*{Winner will receive 2 baby marimo shown in the first pics, not exactly those since I rolled multiple ones, so they might be bigger or same size, the really big ones are mine im just showing as reference. The small glass bottle is NOT included.}*
I will include instructions on how to care for your marimo, very easy. These would make a fantastic gift, perfect for anyone that adores japanese treasures, live aqua plants, or maybe a friend that needs some cheering up to do or needs that extra good luck!!

* Thanks for visiting & happy bidding! *

You call them babies and say they roll, are they some sort of semi sentient plant? Like those venus flytraps or the throwing sticker cactus?

I call them babies because they are small and came from my bigger marimo. They are unique form of algae that grow in water in a ball shape, and they roll around the river floor with the flow of the water and stay round.

You mentioned you have had yours for five years and it has doubled in size. What size was it when you received it? I have a small "baby" like these but have been hooping to find a larger one as well. Thanks! F&W of course!

They were about half the size they are now. They sell bigger marimo on Etsy and Ebay but its hard to find real marimo because I heard some people are selling fake replicas of them. If youre gonna purchase one make sure they are legit you should research. They do grow pretty slow but its fun to watch them grow with you.. FB :)
