The listing, Banded Obsidian with Crystal and Pearls Pendant has ended.
This is a pendant purchased some time ago for myself. I don't know for sure about the stone but in checking grey with stripes, I found a stone called 'Banded Obsidian' so at best, that is my guess. Also included in this pendant are five pear shaped red crystals, a white pearl and a dark grey pearl ~ all surrounded by sterling silver in a lovely setting. It is 2 3/4" in length and 1 1/4" at its widest point. The bail is behind the top decorative section.
About Banded Obsidian: Obsidian is formed from the polymerisation of extremely viscous (sticky) lava with a very high SiO2 content. The viscosity means that there will be a very low rate of diffusion of compounds through the lava before it cools so any other compounds will remain mostly in the same place, if there is a high enough content they will form a visible band. It's also possible that it could be starting to crystallize preferentially in certain regions.
The 2nd photo is the same as the first except that it is lightened in order to see detail a bit better.
