Nice. Just gave my friend, who bought some land and built a few small cabins on it. about 3 or 4 of these. He decorates the cabins with antiques You are right, awesome pieces of history!
I was in the military for 16 years and part of that was during Desert Storm. You're right though, we have no idea how bad it was back during WWII except in the stories we read. I'll be watching this auction and hope to have a chance to win it. Fanned ya, too.
I have had it several years, I kinda forgot about it, I came across it in a draw and thought it would be perfect for one of my listia collectors. I believe I acquired it at an estate sale, I can't say for sure. I to am a collector and I buy from Estates, Auctions, Sales, Antique stores, etc. If there is a sign I am usually stoppin'.....lol. Why do you ask?
Sorry if that question offended you or anything..I just Love hearing the back story when it come to Antiques...Cool to hear the story...I guess Im just weird and stuff like that interests me...Its like this little diary a friend of mine found tucked behind a draw in a dresser she had bought at an estate sale...
No offense taken, I thought maybe you knew the family that was on it or something....lol, I love the back stories as well, I the show, "If this house could talk" have you ever seen it?
***Correction, it is called "If these walls could talk".....lol I think it is on HGTV, or maybe the History channel. It is about old homes and the things people find in them and the history of the old homes...it is a really cool show.
Tonireese0314, you are correct. It is on HGTV, and it is called "If These Walls Could Talk". I have it set to record all Seagalls or is it Segalls shows. Anyway, it is very interesting.
Yes it is, it's like peaking into to the past..... I think that is why I love collecting, especially personal items. I like to think about the person that may have owned it and how there life might have been. Oh and by the way, my husband reminded me, this item came from my own Mother's Estate. It wasn't anyone that we knew personally, she found it in her home when she bought it. I can't believe I didn't remember that. That time was such a blur for me. I am glad I don't have any sentimental attachment to it now that I know where it came from. It would be a little late for that.....lol. My mom was famous for her cooking and the things that I held dear and kept where many of her kitchen items and her cookbooks.
That is wonderful that you have those memories to cherish ! We just bought a house from the antebellum period (1830). I wish these walls could talk!! Before anyone asks, "no, the house has been cleaned out, completely". Of course we didn't pry up the hardwood floors or tear down the plaster walls, maybe we would find an old shoe or something if we did.lol Heard that some people put them in there for good luck.
