This issue commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Battle of White Plains, NY, fought October 28, 1776. The British, attempting to outflank Gen. Washington's forces in upper Manhattan, caused him to withdraw his main force northward. In a sharp battle at White Plains, the British captured a key hill, but Washington escaped while they were awaiting reinforcements.note : all stamps shipped asap and/or with in 7 day close of auction.
