they have lace with the embellishments on the top of the lace - the material (which does not have a tag content) is what I call "sateen" it is shiny has stretch but not like elastic just to make it conform to different size arms and to keep them in place, I wouldn't call it real satin because if my memory of high school sewing class serves me right real satin doesn't have any stretch, but it does have the sheen and glow of satin - the ball sounds wonderful ! feel free to ask more questions if you need. thanks for your interest !
