The listing, Blue Stained Glass Earrings - handmade by Ret. US Navy Chief has ended.
My husband made these with glass left over from another project. The fronts have subtle horizontal stripes, while the backs have more of a cloud pattern. He used lead/tin solder to add the loops for the hooks, which gives them a handmade, kind of rustic look.
I am 99% sure the hooks are sterling silver, but if you have sensitive ears you might want to add a thin coat of clear nail polish.
Much like house paint, the lead in the solder should not be a safety concern as long as it is left intact. I would not let a child or pet play with / touch / put these in their mouth, but that pretty much goes for all jewelry, right?
Here is a link to the Material Safety Data Sheet for lead/tin solder. Notice the warnings focus on working with the solder, not handling finished products.
