it appears to be a Bastet a cat goddess judgeing by her pose and the base she is positioned on. cracking like that happens to alot of old glaze :) its a verry neat kitty she was probly a souvaneer for some one a long time ago on a trip to egypt.
bECAUSE i HAVE SO MUCH aNTIQUES,And really dont like Cats But I do like This one,I did almost changed my mindf, I still have second thoughts,Husband says I need to get rid of some stuff, what better place to go !!!!!
I think its sopposed to be like that, cause friends were looking at it,you can hardly see it without the camera, and the Cat itself is SO SMOOTH take you should be able to feel it .There is no peeling its I think made that way I tripped out when I saw the pics,Like the other lady said I thinks its a souveir from EGYPT?
mY husband said he remembers a show on history about them worshiping Cats.I am not sure what it is made of, But its very Beauiful,Thanks for the information ?
I didn't need to read "Made in Egypt," to know that this came from Egypt. Egyptians worshiped cats. It is basically a Cat Figurine, what the material is I can't tell from the pictures, it could be pottery, ceramic, it doesn't look like porcelain. It has "Egyptian Heiroglyphics" around the base, but since I can't read Egyptian, they may or may not have meaning. The glaze has crackled, but that can add or detract from an item.
