The listing, 1907 Liberty "V" Nickel- 107 Years Old!!! has ended.

Here is a good-fine condition V nickel.Blackened a little with age.Worth $1.75- $3.80 or more ungraded.These V nickles that I list may not be the exact coin the winner gets.I have several of the same year.Good luck!

The Shield nickel, introduced in 1866, was the first base-metal five-cent piece in U.S. history; up to then, the half dime—a small silver coin—had filled the nation’s need for that denomination. Though reasonably well accepted, the Shield nickel was hardly untouchable; its stark, bland design made it a prime candidate for remodeling. And its newness did not protect it from replacement: At that time, there was not yet a federal law establishing a minimum life expectancy for U.S. coin designs.

Snowden admired Barber’s new design, and he also welcomed the change because it gave him a chance to increase the diameter (and thus reduce the thickness) of the nickel. He believed that this would lengthen die life dramatically.

Thank you for the information.To go further would be to say that the red book goes by the word LIBERTY on the head band to determine the condition of this coin.No letters mean good condition.All the letters and sharp mean extremely fine EF-40 condition.The V nickels that I have left are either in good or very good condition because neither they have no or a few letter in LIBERTY.Worth $1.75-$2.25 according to the book.Most of my V nickels are in the same or slightly better condition.I do not consider any of them to be worn out or in poor condition.All are in good to fine condition.Good luck bidding.

Let me clean up this one sentence that I made.The 1907 V nickels that I have left are either in good or very good condition because they either have a few letters or no letters in the word LIBERTY.The other years of my V nickels are from good-fine condition.Just want to be clear and honest.Not like most people that want to think their item is worth more than what it is worth.
