Bill of Rights 175th anniversary
Freedom Checking Tyranny, Herbert Block
The "Bill of Rights" is the name given to the first 10 amendments of the U.S. Constitution because they provide basic legal protection for individual rights. The Constitution contains protection for some individual rights in the body of its text. As originally drafted in 1787 by the Philadelphia convention, no federal bill of rights was included. George Mason introduced such a motion, which was defeated overwhelmingly. The Constitution without such delineated rights caused popular dissatisfaction.
