You are bidding on a seedling with good developed root system. I usaually mail out on Fridays and with this kind of item you will get a tracking #. I do live ina very rual area of an Island so please allow time to get there. The sea grape tree (Coccoloba uvifera) gets its name from its edible fruit that closely resemble grapes. The tree is one that tolerates high soil salinity and thrives in coastal areas near salt water.
Instructions:
1
Monitor the area where the sea grape tree resides to ensure that it receives at least partial sunlight all day long. If needed, prune back surrounding vegetation with loppers or a pruning saw to increase the light level near the tree.
2
Water the sea grape tree at least once or twice per week with 1 inch of water until it is well established at approximately one year of age. After establishment, water the tree only during periods of drought.
3
Fertilize the sea grape in the early spring as soon as it displays new green growth. Spread a slow-release fertilizer, such as 10-10-10, over the soil using the amount specified on the package for a single tree. If desired, you may also apply a water-soluble fertilizer on a monthly basis from spring through the fall.
4
Prune the sea grape tree in the fall by removing any suckers along the trunk using hand pruners, which maintains the tree form. Remove any dead branches where they emerge from the main trunk using a pruning saw. Finally, remove up to 1/8 of the remaining branches 1/4 inch from the main trunk at evenly spaced intervals around the tree to open up the interior to air and light.
5
Rake up the leaves under the sea grape tree once per month and place them into a composter or the trash. Although the tree is evergreen, it regularly sheds dead leaves, which can cause insect or pest problems if they remain on the ground.
