Description

The listing, Wandering Jew Houseplant Collection has ended.

I have been looking for Wandering Jew clippings for a long time from friends and family so I could start a collection. No one ever had any, so I decided to buy some clippings. I got alot more than I expected, so I thought I'd list some.

The winner will get 12 clippings total - two 4 inch clippings of the following 6 varieties -

Variegated (first picture)
Fuzzy Kitten Ears (second picture)
Purple Heart (third picture)
Emerald Green (fourth picture)
Purple
Dark Purple
(Sorry, the pictures of these last two wouldn't upload for some reason)

Wandering Jew is a very easy plant to grow and propagate. Just stick cuttings in dirt or water, and in about a week, the plant will be taking off!

They also grow quite fast, so it's easy to make more of these beautiful plants. Just pinch off two to four inch pieces, and start the process again!

I will send these clippings wrapped in wet paper, placed in plastic, then put in a mailing box.

Thanks for looking : )

Hey, just found the secret to wandering jews success it's the bottle of bud in the backround!

Yeah, I noticed that bottle in the picture after I uploaded it! I have everyone bring me glass bottles so I can scrub the labels off and use them for my clippings. That was one I haven't washed yet. I have heard, though, that some people feed their plants beer. I haven't tried it myself. Mine just get the bottles : )

They can be grown outdoors year round in warm climates, but if you get cold winters, they should be brought indoors.

Wandering Jew plants are my favorite! I find that they grow easier if you plant them directly in soil (I use Miracle Gro). I fanned you and I'm watching =)

I plant some of my Wandering Jew cuttings directly in soil, but mostly I start them in water. I really don't think you can go wrong any way you plant them. They are such an easy and fast growing plant. Thanks for watching. Fanned you back : )

When I lived back east, I always grew them, then I moved out west and left my plants behind. I've spent a few years looking to replace my Wandering Jew, and could never find them in stores. I finally gave up and got some on ebay. I don't know what took me so long!!

I can only speak for myself, but I've never killed a Wandering Jew. They are one of the easiest plants I've ever grown. I've killed my fair share of plants, too, especially tropicals, but I've never had problems with these. Thanks for watching and fanning. Fanned you back : )

Are these kid friendly...not poisonous?
+2
Jun 27th, 2011 at 4:11:41 PM PDT by
Original
I've never known them to be poisonous, but I did some online checking of poisonous houseplants, just to be sure. They are not listed as poisonous, but the sap from the stems may cause skin irritation. I would suggest keeping them up out of reach of small children, just to be on the safe side. Since they look so pretty in hanging baskets, that would probably be the best thing for you to do : )

Do you mean that these can grow in water alone without soil?
+4
Jun 19th, 2011 at 8:15:01 PM PDT by
Original
They can be rooted in either soil or water. I have a "bottle garden" in my sunny windows at all times, and I let my Wandering Jews stay there in the bottles I root them in until their roots outgrow the bottle. I then take clippings from the vines, plant the rooted plant in soil, ant put the clipping back in the bottle of water. I've done that for years. I also do that with Pothos, Philodendron, and a few other plants as well : )

BASDD, I just called my local post office, and the clerk checked on restrictions for mailing plants. All she could find were restrictions for international shipping, or sending fruit. She told me that there are no restrictions on me mailing them here from Nevada, but she suggested that you ask your local post office to be sure you can receive them in California. Thanks again for asking : )

Great auction....I'm definitely watching (hoping to bid but I don't have many points at the moment!) Going to check to see if you have put any more clippings up! I have a small apartment and need more plants like I need a hole in the head, but somehow my black thumb has turned green since moving here! lol Don't know how that happened :-) Purple is my FAVORITE color -- so I will definitely look forward to having some of those!

When this auction ends, I will list some more clippings. I was going to wait a few weeks, because a few days ago I got two new Wandering Jew clippings, one Rainbow, which is a really pretty variegated pink (which is MY favorite color!) and one Tricolor, which is like the rainbow, but also has purple coloring with it. They are gorgeous, but they are both really small so I won't be able to get clippings from them for a few weeks. Instead of waiting that long before I list the next Wandering Jew auction, I'll list it in a few days, and offer the two new clippings separately when they're ready : )
I was really disappointed that the pictures of the Purple and Dark Purple varieties didn't upload, because they are so pretty. Hopefully I can get them to upload next time.
Thank you for watching : )

I'm very sorry if I've offended anyone, but that is the actual name of this plant. Spider plant is a different plant entirely.
