The listing, 1886 or 1885 ? Love Token has ended.

Love tokens were made from usally from silver ,gold or copper coins. This one is made from silver. They were turn into necklaces, bracelets or buttons . This one seems to be a button . I think its a candian 5 cent . The engraving says Your Loving Ettie XMAS 1886, with victorian design around the words. The coin could be early than 1886. If you are looking for scrap silver this auction is not for you.

Queen Victoria lived from 24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901. The token says XMAS 1886 on it. I researched the usage of the term Xmas was surprised to find out that it actually dates back to the 16th Century. And was often used by the poets in a romantic way. Most love tokens that I have seen were charms for necklaces. This is very interesting indeed. Is there any more back story that you can provide? This is obviously from a Canadian couple. The Canada nickel at the time (km2 5 Cents) had a silver weight of 0.0346 troy ounce and was minted between 1858-1901. Best of luck with your auctions. A most interesting piece.
