Listed for your bidding consideration is this Vintage Metal $1 Silver Dollar size Gaming Token from the Sand's Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
This Vintage metal token has the Sand's Hotel & Casino depicted in the center of the token with the date of 1982. The reverse side has the denomination "One Dollar" in the center of the token. The metal token is in excellent condition for its age and all lettering around the edge is perfect. It weighs 20.8 Grams.
The Sands Casino Hotel was a casino and hotel that operated from August 31, 1980 until November 11, 2006 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
At its peak, the Sands headlined top entertainers, such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Cher, Liza Minnelli, Bob Dylan, Robin Williams, Whitney Houston & Eddie Murphy, among others.
The building was imploded at 9:37 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on October 18, 2007; the first-ever casino-hotel implosion on the East Coast. It was accompanied by a fireworks show and numerous parties along the boardwalk. Coincidentally, Sands was demolished less than 24 hours after the death of the last surviving member of the Rat Pack, comedian Joey Bishop.
The traditional, heavy silver dollar sized $1 metal casino gaming tokens, used for both slot machine and live table play, have become obsolete. They have been replaced by voucher slips for the machines, and composite material chips at the live gaming tables.
