National Defense Issue
90mm anti-aircraft gun
Temporarily replacing regular issues at the beginning of World War II, this is one of three stamps provided to create a general consciousness of the existing threat to U.S. security and to focus attention on the necessity for developing an adequate national defense. Original sketches for these designs were made by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, himself an avid stamp collector. Design of this stamp is a reproduction of a 90-millimeter anti-aircraft gun.
