Description

The listing, Renaissance-LOTR-STAGE Costume-Handmade-Silk-Beading-COSPLAY has ended.

This is a stage costume which means that it has been designed for stage presence and to be clearly visable by the audience from a distance. Therefore, there are some design differences in how these are constructed. It is completely wearable. But, it will be heavier than normal and it will be a warm costume under strong lights or in heat.
The gown is constructed in 2 parts. The first is the actual gown made from red and black cross-dyed silk dupioni. The crossdying produces an intense, gothic blood/crimson red with a definite shadow of black. The color is beautiful and was VERY striking under stage lights. The gown is completely lined in heavier weight cotton/poly blended drapery lining for support and for durability. Stage costumes take a beating and this one is in very, very good condition considering it was used for the run of the play.
The sleeves are also silk dupioni until you reach above elbow length on the average woman and then they become deep black silk georgette. They are cut angular and have a deep drape. The trim on the sleeves is hand beaded from India in shades of amber, gold and cranberry red with gold bullion weaving. It matches the gold trim on the overbodice. Scattered over the skirt of the gown are many small bead clusters made from AB clear and deep red Swarovski Bicone Beads tipped with clear crystal antique 1920's German made beads. The crystal clusters have been affixed to the skirt with metallic gold thread.
The costume also has a removable over-bodice made from unlined deep black stretch vleour. The overbodice is sleeveless, has a seperating back zipper and is trimmed under the bust with the same bead trim as the sleeves. The neckline, sleeves and bottom edges are finished in black satin. The neckline is trimmed in thin gold braid.
This was designed to be worn by a woman measuring a 35-36ish bust but seams are generous. The bust is the key-seams are princess so they do forgive a lot. Retail value-$900

You say that the bust is the key, so does that mean that if the bust measurements were a match then the rest should fit? I ask because my lower half runs from a size 14-16 womens.

The bust is key to fitting the dress properly. The princess seams which define the shape through the midriff and lower torso sections are forgiving and they are deep so if you had to have some alterations done, the fabric is there. Having said that-the mid section of the dress-that is from under the bustline to the waist measures 34 inches at the widest point. The bust was cut large enough to accomodate the actress having breast implants at the time. That in turn affected the width of the upper back, so all told, a chest (at the bust) measurement of 35 inches would fit. In terms of American sizing, you would have to look at this as about a size 12-14 in the bodice area. The hips are free size because that's where the skirt flares to a full skirt and hip measurement is not crucial. Unfortunately much of the info I have or can give about the costume (since I am the designer and maker) simply won't fit in the description area of the listing. So ask everything-I am contractually bound NOT TO REVEAL THE NAME OF THE ACTRESS WHO WORE THIS COSTUME, so please don't ask me that. Please keep in mind that once an actress is selected for a part in film or in a play, all her wardrobe is either made to fit her or, if it's ready made, altered to fit her. But that certainly does NOT mean that one of her costumes can't be altered to fit another person because that's done all the time in theatre and film. In point of fact, we spend more time altering existing costumes than we do actually designing new costumes.

I forgot to mention that this costume can be worn with or without the overbodice and is usually worn with a full hoop petticoat but it can be worn without. Pics 1 and 2 are with a petticoat and the last one is without.

can u do free shipping

Not on this one! The costume itself is heavy and the best way to ship this and have the receiver to get something they don't have to send out to a presser immediately is to ship it in a box. Believe me, at $14.50 shipping, your getting a steal. This is a QUALITY, made for the theatre product-not a dollar store Halloween costume.

Listing tomorrow or Friday-a deep bark brown with black overdye silk dupioni elfen robe. There is a great deal of handbeading on it and it is quite stunning. This also a stage costume, designed, created and hand beaded by me. It was designed for a man but it really is ubisex-so girls-don't be afraid to check it out.
