You'd have to use a credit card unless you have some online way to use a bank account. I think you might be able to buy Amazon gift cards in stores like Target or possibly the supermarket, but I'm not really sure. I always deal with Amazon online.
It's safer to use your credit card online than to hand it to someone in a store. I use Paypal for all my online transactions. That way you never have to give a company or vendor your credit card number, only Paypal has it. I've never had a problem and have used Paypal since it stared, probably at least 10 years now. Paypal makes it really easy to safely buy stuff online, but I'm not actually sure if you can use Paypal to buy on Amazon. I always use gift codes to buy on amazon ...
I just won a gift card from another seller who can't buy online, and Amazon gift cards are sold at hundreds of stores, incluing Walgreens. Here's a link to a list of participating retailers ... I know I've seen them at supermarkets too!
