Pink or brilliant orange flowers attract Monarch butterflies. They will lay their eggs on the leaves and the caterpillars will eat the leaves. I included pictures of the caterpillars that hatched on my plants. I'm not positive of the color as the caterpillars devoured the plants these came from but I'm pretty sure they are pink.
They flower from midsummer to autumn. They are very hardy perennials that tolerate hot dry conditions. They do best in full sun with well drained soil. They grow 24 to 36" and should be spaced 12" apart.
