The listing, Indian Blanket Wildflower Seed Head (about 50 seeds) has ended.
This listing is for a freshly harvested Indian Blanket (Firewheel) seed head. Each seed head should contain at least 50 seeds. The one that I took apart for the photo had around 70. That seems to be the average. I will be sending the seed head intact to allow you to pull it apart before planting. The seeds are tiny and the head is tightly packed. I held the stem and pulled out the seeds with small pliers. Tweezers may also work well. The seeds are said to keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 years.
I took these photo's and collected seed heads this month. I only chose the heads that were brown and ready. We have had the flowers growing and multiplying for many years now. We brought some back from Central Texas as cut flowers years ago (they make great cut flowers) and the rest is history. The Indian Blankets are growing in the most inhospitable place in our yard. Very dry, gravel slope. We are in the middle of one of the worst droughts in our areas history here, and they are doing great! Excellent for those dry areas that nothing else will grow in. They will re-seed by themselves and spread nicely.
They will be shipped in a ziplock bag inside a first class envelope the next day. I will even include an information card with a photo of the flower. That way you don't lose track of what the seeds were and what the flowers look like. I know that has happened to me on more than one occasion.
I will be getting the information from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center here in Texas. If you would like to learn more about this wonderful flower now, you can visit the site at:
