It could be especially helpful if you travel; how to deal with Customs and how to avoid getting scammed when buying outside the USA are included. There are appendices with Mohs scale, refractive index, specific gravity, birthstone list (Did you know that birthstones were "invented" in 1912?) and a good bibliography.
