The listing, 40 RED SUNFLOWER SEEDS (L@@K at all photos) has ended.
40 RED SUNFLOWER SEEDS
As you see in the photos they start out as dark red or black looking then they gradually get lighter where they look like a regular red with yellow streaks. This is the first time I ever seen red sunflowers. I thought I would share some of my seeds with my fellow Listians. Thank you and happy bidding. :)
Questions & Comments
Those look like the ones you won from me. They are so pretty and had never seen this kind before.
Fanned back. :) I know these are really awesome and I think they are rare. The only sunflowers I have seen are the orange and yellow ones is there any other type of colors?
Wow! So many comments!! Awesome! These are very pretty! Definitely unique! I wonder- if the packet you planted was to be yellow and orange, if somehow they "intertwined" and made red? Lol I wonder if the seeds from the plant will produce red sunflowers too?? Or if they will bloom orange n yellow?
Definitely bidding! Excited to see what each seed brings! Will you list more auctions with these?! Looks like there's ALOT OF PEOPLE wanting some!!!! Not sure if it will even grow here in Pa. My soil is horrid. But hey! Worth a try!
These are supposed to be the ones in the photos they should come out that same color. :-) I hope they do. :-) But that's what they should do. :-) And I wish you the best of luck on these. :-) And thank you so much for bidding. :-). Yes I will get more soon after I get more seats. :-) I got to go through all the seeds. :-) I'm letting them dry first. :-)
so how many seeds do you need to plant on each side of door to get a sun flower? Hubby has the green thumb but theses would be so cool on either side of front door.
Sunflowers can be 18" tall -10'. The large-headed ones are now hybridized so the heads hang down (so the birds don't eat the seeds). I liked the old ones where the heads stayed up. Some have a single head. Others are called branching, many blooms on one plant on many arms of the plant. There is a perennial sunflower, too. That one is 2" yellow flowers that grow about 4' tall. They say you can eat the roots (not really a sunflower, but looks like a sunflower). I've never tried to eat any roots. I love the Evening Sun sunflowers--rings of yellow, orange, bronze. I have seen large red sunflowers and smaller branching ones.Heidi
That is really cool. I didn't know this much about the sunflower seeds. Yes I used to have those huge ones that would get really big and round. :-). Some people can eat the ribs to them? Only some flowers I've seen besides he's red ones now are the yellow and orange but I've never seen a bronze.
This year I grew Italian sunflowers. They grew 8 foot and then up a head about another 18" higher than that. It was like a Sunflower Geek! But so beautiful and when I looked at pictures on the internet they grow them in Tuscany, Italy in fields. These hold upright. I put my sunflower seed heads on my picnic table to dry and the birds and squirrels devoured the Italian sunflowers. Must taste like candy. They left the mammoth sunflower seeds for later. I've also grown Lemon Queen, Soraya and several others. I love making a natural 'fenceline' with sunflowers during the summer and as the tall backdrop for flower gardens. I've been trying to grow them on the west side of my house as a shade protectant, but that hasn't proven successful because of a tree that doesn't allow them enough sun to grow to their highest. I also assumed the sunflowers would drop seeds and I'd get volunteer babies. I got many babies, all in places I didn't want them and the places I wanted volunteer sunflowers the birds ate the seed! Go figure! Listia is a great place to get seeds. They are from people who have actually grow the plant and saved the seed. Much better chance of getting good seeds, low cost and great selection. There's also a seed-trading website Gardenweb if you're interested. Just an offer, no pressure and no advertisement.
It is really cool. I have never heard of Italian sunflowers. I didn't know they have particular names like that. Yes that group sounds interesting I would like to take a look at it. Where are you from my friend? So you grew out of sunflowers? I brought these ones inside to dry up so the birds don't eat them. Lol is the lemon queen and the other one consider sunflower to?
I just asked my Great grandmama about these and showed them to her-- she's been a flower lady for the better part of her 93 years!- and she said they must be "evening sun" sunflowers? That though they usually grow with orange and yellow streaks they can also bloom in "Scarlet" (deep red), "maroon" (a purple-ish brown) or/and a "Deep Purple" (looks almost black she said!) How Neat!! She said they usually get about 6 feet tall or so and also that the flowers are averaged about 4-5".
How is it that when ANYONE thinks of a sunflower- myself included, we always think of gorgeous bright yellow flowers, or a orange tinted flower. NEVER would I have imagined that you could be PURPLE-ISH BLACK!? Or SCARLET RED!! Lol guess we learn something re everyday!
Now if only I could find a HOT PINK sunflower! Ha ha.
That is really awesome my friend. Thank you for asking your grandma about this. :-) I did hear from other Listians that there are a lot of different sunflowers out in different colors. :-) I know I wish there was a hot pink and turquoise blue in so long like that wouldn't that be so cool?! :-).
