i could not tell you with experience of my own cause with my crappy internet it did not work but my mom has one and it sound ok as long as you have a good internet provider you should have no problem

The sound quality is based on the internet service you have. I want to tell you all though I have a magic jack and it is very good. If you are in the military and going overseas or know someone in the military going to go overseas, tell them to get a magic jack, its a easier and less costly way of calling family back home. I mean cheaper then buying alot of calling cards. When I was overseas I loved it.
