The listing, Authentic Chanel Bag has ended.

This is an AUTHENTIC vintage CHANEL cross body bag. The purse is near perfect, no flaws and completely stain and scuff free. Black quilted leather embossed with logo. Lined in an Oxblood Red Leather. Retailed for an outrageously high price of $2,650.00. I originally planned to sell it on eBay but would much rather give someone with less means an opportunity to get it. This purse will last a lifetime if cared for.

I'm not sure if posting links to outside sites is allowed or not, BUT there are several articles on identifying a real vs fake Chanel bag. It's a little tricky with the vintage (pre-1990's) bags due to the fact that the serial was literally a sticker that often peeled off over time. I took this in to a Nieman Marcus that is about an hour drive for me from here to have the bag looked at by their Chanel counter. They explained that besides the label, there are key things that they look at: 1) the spacing on the overlapping C's, 2) the Quilting 3) the chain hardware 4) the hardware, i.e. zippers, etc, and lastly, the lining or interior of the purse.

Unfortunately the bag's label either peeled off or it predates the label. I have had it looked at by a Chanel associate who assured me it is authentically Chanel- just a very vintage bag.

Yes, Chanel DOES date code their bags (at least NOW they do).. Unfortunately, as I explained (above) the date code label has either peeled off, or as the Chanel associate told me the bag very well may have pre-dated the use of those labels.

Yikes, I hadn't realized how badly that looked in the picture until now. I have taken a ruler to it, and promise that it is TOTALLY symmetrical. It does look wonky in the photographs. I will see if using a different camera fixes the way this looks for everyone.
