Questions & Comments

While I'm relatively certain that this particular piece is not issued by the Murano "BRAND" - it looks like it is in fact venetian art glass from the Venice or Murano region. The closest example I have found is a Barovier & Tosso piece, from Murano Italy, that is about 35 years old, and of a similar size, and shape, though your example is IMO a nicer example, and the Barovier & Tosso piece is retailing for $60+ USD. I hope that helps some of the lurkers to get in on the bidding. Happy auctioning! ~J.R.

Thank-you for taking the time to research and write. You made me curious, so I went to eBay and looked up this Barovier & Tosso maker, which by the way, I have never heard of before. I am not a collector so there is a lot of beautiful glass out there that I have never heard of..lol. Anyway, I did see a couple of pieces that were similar..smaller but similar. The asking prices were positively insane! I had no idea that this kind of glass is worth so much! Wow. I understand that these pieces were made individually so I guess that no two would be alike, anyway. I appreciate the fact that your comments are helpful without being critical..very nice of you. Also, you have a couple of yummy looking recipes that I am watching...cookies made with potato chips? I think my grand kids would get a kick out of making them with me.

Oh yay, you aren't mad... I hate not being able to hear voice tone while communicating because I have nothing but praise and respect for this gorgeous artwork as well as your impeccable taste in choosing and sharing it! I am that way with my crystals, stones, fossils and agates....very over protective but there is nothing more unpleasant that sitting down on top of a jagged agate!!!! YOUCH!!!! I don' really have tons of glass pieces, but I do have many, none the same and each as unique as yours! I have been putting them all in a safe deposit account because my great nieces and nephews come over and the little buggers aren't the most careful, they just want to play with the pretty thins!!!! LOL!!!! xoxoxo Lovin you and your auction!

I never get mad on listia...well, except for that one time when a fellow listian(ex listian now), tried to scam me on a couple of gift cards....anyway, we don't know each other well enough to get mad! Lol. I have to save my energy for my teenagers...I do appreciate your thoughts, tho. This form of communication is far from ideal. We can't see each other or sit down and talk with a cup of coffee. It's way too easy to take things the wrong way. So, we should just forget this and move in..lol. Your collection sounds awesome. Listia is the perfect place to add to a collection like yours. I, too, appreciate beautiful stones. I still bend over to pick up pretty rocks when I find them. My mother used to collect agates and she was forever reminding us to find her some when we went to the beach. I will share a funny with you...for a long time now, whenever I find a pretty bag of rocks..say at a thrift store..I buy them and spread them out in our gravel driveway. My husband sells furniture that he restores. Most of the time when they walk up to the house, they will see one that catches their eye..bend over and(after looking around to make sure no one is looking)put it into their pocket! Some will ask if they can have it..most don't. Me and my hubby get a big kick out of this..how sick are we? Lol. Anyway, good luck with the auction. Catch you later...

I got into Art Glass when a "neighbor" of mine in an office bulding was Europa Glass about 10 years ago. I have a couple very nice pieces, and have some Murano pieces as well. Happy I could help.

I absolutely never implied they are cheap, I am the highest bidder, and I know how much these run, and it is far from cheap....

I am glad that you cleared that up for me. When you said you had "tons" of these, it implied to me that you can buy this bowl anywhere and this is simply not true. It is a one-of-a-kind piece. Your post also implied to me that you disregarded the previous post(maybe you didn't read it?). This lady also collects glass and has researched this bowl. The fact that you are the highest bidder also implies that you want this bowl. The written word is a tricky thing. Opinions can easily be taken the wrong way.

Not in the Murano's or any other families but widely loved in many other colors too.... Love these!!! I have tons!

I don't know what you mean by "families", but if you look up pictures of Venetian glass or Murano glass you will see that mine is quite similar. This is not a cheaply made piece.

It's called Splattered Glass and Copper...

I suppose you could call it splattered if you want. The colors do look like they were splattered on. Splattered glass is a general term that is used in many glass items. I have had "splattered" glass also. The glass looks thinner to me.

Hi Susan..Ty for your lovely comment! I don't have a museum..lol...but once in awhile I am lucky to find beautiful things that I think others might like. I found this piece in a private thrift store. The lady that runs it, got it in a bunch of things at an estate auction. There is no telling how old this is, although it does not look like a new piece to me. I am not an expert in this area..I only know what I like! I love glass but I just have no room to collect anymore.
