I could be wrong, but I have an 18th Century French "moutard" jar. They were used to store the powder mustard. I spent the longest time trying to figure out what moutard meant on the way home after I bought it. I finally found it online on EBay. Great collectible though! : ) Fanned/watching : )

Very much so. Is there any paperwork that comes with it or any distinctive characteristics that would distinguish it as a ginger jar? Just asking, I want to learn. : )
